My name is John Baker and I have the privilege of being a professional
fly fishing guide in one of the most beautiful and highly regarded trout
fishing regions in the world, Turangi ( New Zealand) .The trout capital of
the world, situated at the southern end of lake Taupo,

I grew up in Victoria Australia, and started fly fishing at a young age of
nine years, in the following years, after reading books on fly fishing New
Zealand waters; it was time to see it for myself. So here I am in a country
I will never leave. I started working in my trade as a mechanical fitter but
on my days off, I was out on all rivers you can imagine. Landing trout of
all sizes largest being 13lb Brown out of the Hydro Pool (Tongariro River) I
also worked in the South Island, again exploring rivers. What a place to be,
another part of New Zealand, also another world.

Deciding to leave my trade I worked in a sports shop for a number of years
during such time

An opportunity arose to purchase a fly fishing shop on the banks of the
famous Tongariro River. So a dream to work at what I love came true, so
here I am now a professional Trout Fishing Guide. Doing what I love most.

The vast majority of my life has been spent in Franklin, south of Auckland.

I am a certified kindergarten, music and SPELD teacher. I have also worked
in Real Estate.

John and I met after discovering we both had an interest in the program
'Gone Fishing!'

Soon after, down here in Paradise, I was lucky enough to land a 7lb Rainbow
and an 8lb Brown within 30 minutes of each other! From then on I was reeled
in, hook, line and sinker!

John and I are proud to be 'The Raised Hackle", (Home Of World Class Trout
Fishing) John being the experienced fishing guide and myself preparing
nourishment for hungry anglers.
